Three different musical concepts merge into a unique stream of consciousness when guitarist Elden Kelly, bassist Dave Sharp and drummer Gayelynn McKinney join forces.

McKinney, Kelly & Sharp is a collaborative jazz trio that combines elements of world music, jazz standards and pure improvisation. Gayelynn McKinney is one of Detroit's most accomplished drummers, having played for renowned international music artists Aretha Franklin, Freda Payne, Chaka Khan, Benny Golson, Roy Hargrove, Larry Coryell, Marcus Belgrave, Ralphe Armstrong, Roy Ayers and Geri Allen. Guitarist, composer and vocalist Elden Kelly has captivated audiences across the country with his masterful writing and improvisational ability. His music thrives at the nexus of jazz, classical and world music, combining a deep knowledge of music with astounding and engaging performances. Bassist, composer and bandleader Dave Sharp explores music traditions from around the world, and specializes in jazz and world music. Sharp’s collaborations include Senegalese vocalist Cheikh Lo, Kenyan percussionist Kaboge Chagala, Indian vocalists Parthiv Gohil and Jonita Gandhi, and formal study with legendary jazz bassists Marion Hayden and Herbie Lewis, as well as Hindustani vocalist Ustad Salamat Ali Khan. MK&S brings an adventurous spirit to the stage with performances of original compositions, jazz standards and unique interpretations of traditional songs from around the world.

With the goal of providing amazing hospitality with minimal rules, the Blue LLama Jazz Club doesn't have a mandatory cover charge when featuring local and regional artists. However, our mission is to bring the best talent to our community and you will see an optional cover line on the check. While it's not required, you're welcome to add the suggested amount per person to help us continue our mission of presenting amazing music five days a week on the Blue LLama stage.
