A “roarin’ young lion,” said music writer and jazz aficionado Charles Latimer, who “…can make his tenor swing and sing at the very same time.” His most recent release, Knomadic Reverence peaked at #11 on the billboard jazz charts. The tenor sax prodigy was unleashed at age 12 thanks to a bet with his father. De’Sean heard the music of Charlie Parker and Miles Daves and simply said, “I can do that.” By age 15, his talent, confidence, and perseverance brought him deep into the folds of Detroit’s weighty jazz scene as he learned from and played with jazz legends Gerald Wilson and Marcus Belgrave. De’Sean participated in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's civic jazz program, attended the Detroit School for the Fine and Performing Arts and the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory. He also studied under renowned jazz bassist Rodney Whitaker both through the DSO and Michigan State University. But De’Sean’s adventurous musicality cannot be learned at university or in the jazz clubs. His original sound fuses influences including funk, hip hop, bebop and soul while remaining utterly unique and unrepeatable. He’s toured the world with numerous acts including Stevie Wonder, The Clark Sisters, Yolanda Adams and Faith Evans. He is an active member of the legendary Detroit electronic music collective Underground Resistance and has toured and co- produced alongside techno pioneer Mike Banks and keyboardist Jon Dixon.
